Chemical Peels are a chemical solution, usually TCA (trichloroacetic acid) which is applied to the skin, causing the skin to blister and peel off over a period of 5-10 days. As the treated skin peels off, new more fresh skin replaces it.Chemical peels are a suitable procedure for facial rejuvenation and diminishing the effects of sun damage.Works best on fair , thin skin with superficial wrinkles.
Chemical peeling involves the careful application of a chemical exfoliant to the epidermis skin specifically for the removal of superficial lesion and blemishes and thus to improve the texture of the skin. Various acids and basic chemical agents can be used for this purpose. The nature of the compound, the concentration of the chemical and the length of time it is in skin contact together determine the level of skin penetration and the level of peeling. Our Specialists generally only use and recommend light and medium peeling procedures as these are safe, and require no downtime. Usually a series of peels will be recommended to achieve a clinically pleasing result. What are AHA Acids? Alpha hydroxy acids (commonly referred to as Glycolic Acid) are found in plants and food such as citrus fruits, apples, grapes, sugar cane and sour milk. The acid breaks the intracellular bonds of the epidermis and accelerates the sloughing of the superficial dead skin cells of the epidermis. Lactic acid and glycolic acids are the two most common AHA acids found in skin care products. This peel is considered a light peel and patients will require multiple treatments to see results.
What is Trichloracetic Acid?
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) can be used in many concentrations, but it is most commonly used for medium-depth peeling. TCA is a stronger chemical than the AHA acids. TCA acid will penetrate the skin much faster and deeper producing quicker and more dramatic results. Fine surface wrinkles, superficial blemishes and pigment problems are commonly treated with TCA. Clients may require more than one peel to achieve the desired results.
Commonly asked questions about Chemical Peels Does it hurt? AHA and TCA peels does provide some patient discomfort. You will experience a slight stinging to the skin when the chemical is applied to your skin. Your skin is exposed to the chemical for approximately 2-3 minutes.
Who can benefit from this treatment? Most people who have sun damage such as multiple solar keratosis, pigmentation abnormalities, certain types of acne, and fine wrinkling might benefit from a chemical peel. Peels are often used to treat fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth. Wrinkles caused by sun damage, aging, and hereditary factors can often be reduced with this procedure.
What is the procedure like?
After cleansing the skin to remove oils, the peeling agent is carefully applied. Within minutes, there is a very warm sensation that feels like sunburn. This lasts for a few minutes and is rapidly relieved by the application of cool compresses. In rare instances, there may be some swelling, especially around the eyes for the first two days, but discomfort is minimal. By the third or fourth day, the skin has a tight feeling and will begin to exfoliate. Your new skin will be smoother and more toned. The process usually takes at least 5-7 days Microdermabrasion is a less invasive procedure and post treatment response is associated with a rosy ness to the skin and a slightly stimulating sensation which may last for a few hours.
How much improvement will I have? The amount of improvement is individual and depends on the initial condition of the patient's skin. Maximum improvement of damaged skin and wrinkling ranges from 50%-85% and, although 100% percent improvement is not possible, most patients view the results as dramatic
Dermabrasion is a scraping of the top layers of the skin. This procedure softens edges of surface irregularities, including fine wrinkles and acne scars, especially around the mouth. The results are permanent, however new wrinkles may form as skin ages.
You're a good candidate for dermabrasion or dermaplaning if you have: - Skin damaged from the sun
- Skin that has taken on a yellowish or gray color from ultraviolet rays
- Wrinkles around the mouth, eyes and cheeks
- Brown spots or liver spots
- Chicken pox scars
- Isolated, raised scars Scars from an injury
- Scars from previous surgery
- Deeply pitted acne scars
Dermabrasion and dermaplaning may also be preferred by people with slightly darker skin when treating small areas, since they may be less likely to result in a change in color in those areas. They can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but neither treatment will remove all scars and flaws or prevent aging.
Men and women of all ages, from young people to older adults, can benefit from dermabrasion and dermaplaning. SKIN FILLERS
What is Dermal Filler?
Dermal fillers are used to soften and contour lines, folds, and wrinkles. The most commonly used dermal fillers are Collagen based or Hyaluronic based. The solution is injected into the skin to add volume and create a more youthful appearance.
Are There Many Different Types of Dermal Fillers? Various dermal fillers can be used to immediately soften fine lines, wrinkles and skin folds. These fillers can also be used to mould and contour the face. Special preparations of these fillers can also be used to enhance lip volume and to improve the mouth shape. The most commonly used fillers are cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel preparations specifically manufactured and designed for this purpose. These hyaluronic acid fillers are not permanent, will be slowly absorbed and will last 6-9 months before needing some repeat procedure.
Some fillers are even longer lasting but also have slow onset effect. Specifically Sculptra® is such a filler. This particular preparation is inserted/injected into the skin over 3 sessions and may take a further few months before full dermal effect is achieved. However the results of this treatment will last for several years.
Is the procedure painful? There is some discomfort. The product is injected into the skin with a very fine needle and patients are treated with a topical aesthetic to numb the area to be injected.

Your health care provider will see you again in a few weeks to decide if you need more SCULPTRA injections.

These reactions include redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the injection site. Inflammatory reactions may last for up to two weeks in rare cases. After a lip enhancement, your lips may be swollen for several days. Botox is a protein derivative of the toxin, which, when injected into a muscle causes it to become weakened or inactivated. It stops the muscle from functioning by blocking neuromuscular transmission i.e. stops the chemical messages from the nerve to the muscle.
How long has Botox® been used?
Colostridium Botulinum has been used safely for over 20 years for the treatment of teret syndrome (continuous squinting of the eye). The product has been used in a variety of other therapeutic applications such as Spasmodic Neck, Writers Cramp, and Cerebral Palsy to name but a few.
How is Botox® used for lines and wrinkles? By using facial muscles repeatedly throughout our lifetime, the skin is creased in areas of greatest use. The aging process causes the slow down of collagen and elastin production in the skin so that as we get older these areas of over use become damaged and the lines become permanent. By reducing movement of muscles in these areas, the skin stops being creased and is allowed to recover causing the lines to soften or even fade away.
What happens during the treatment? The process takes about 10 to 15 minutes. The practitioner will ask you to use certain muscles of the face to observe how they work. An extremely fine needle is used to inject Botox® into the appropriate area. The injections may cause some swelling and redness, which will resolve itself in 2 to 4 hours.
Is the result immediate?
The treatment will take effect after 7 to 14 days.
How long will the result last? The treatment will last for approximately three to four months on most individuals. Are there any side effects?
Side effects of this treatment are rare. Occasionally, patients may experience a temporary drooping of the eyelid. This result is very rare and will resolve itself within a few weeks. In extremely rare cases, patients can develop an allergy to the treatment or some patients may not respond to the treatment
